Searching for my unique place in the world has been the mission of my adult life. Actually, I have felt so “different” most of my life that I finally made up my own world—Planet Audrey, where I, the Empress Green Dragon supremely rule with a loving yet powerful hand. We won’t go more thoroughly into that because it is a story unto itself! Art, writing, and sculpting all drew my attentions for periods of time. I succeeded wonderfully, but the joy in creating any of that did not bolster me to push through my fear of business and marketing my work. Oddly enough, the catalyst came to me in vision. I saw myself telling impromptu stories using rocks to conduct the concepts and energies from the individual that I told them for. Then, two weeks later, I actually realized that maybe I was supposed to really DO that! Thus began my adventure into the world of storytelling. As I began thinking of what storytelling has meant to me, I remember the bedtime stories of Dumbo told by Uncle Doc, Grandpap stories told by Dad, and me making up plays. As a parent, I told improvised stories to my boys with their teddy bears, not even realizing that my Uncle used to do the same with me. I have always enjoyed performing from making up plays as a child to theatre in High School, to appearances in church as narrator in Vacation Bible School and Junior Church. I also wrote and performed a monologue of Mary Magdalene and took a seminar to different churches. At my graduation from college, I gave a valedictorian speech which included a story about Wrigger and Mortice who were two collegiate caterpillars. I lived my dream—Rollin’ on the River—singing the song and telling the stories about the Colorado River every day for about three years. One of my favorites included a story my Dad told me when I happened to mention a raven I had seen honking like a goose! Dad lived on his Aunt’s farm for a while with a dog called Digger. A crow started to hang out and pester the dog. The crow also started imitating not only his Aunt calling him to dinner but also the dog barking. One day the postman came down the dirt road; meanwhile, Digger was barking ferociously at him. The crow hopped up and down, wings arched in a most threatening manner, feathers standing up on the back of his neck barking the echo to Digger’s threat! Today, I have told Mystic Stories at Borders for the Enlightenment Center’s Meet-up, Lesbian Social Network’s Speed Dating, nursing homes, The Conscious Community, as well as private parties. I have also told traditional stories for private parties, LSN, the Celtic Harvest Festival as well as the Arizona Republic’s Centennial Storytelling feature. I belong to the South Mountain Community College’s Storytelling Certification program, the National Storytelling Network, Storytelling.net, and the East Valley Tellers of Tales. 1810 W.
